Water for Elephants by Sara GruenMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I didn't know what to expect when i was given this book to read--I had never heard of it other that it being a best seller. I saw a preview for the movie a few weeks ago at the theater and was slightly more intrigued after i saw who was starring in the film (Robert Pattinson and Reece Witherspoon) So i decided to pick up the book and see what it was all about. But when i picked this book up and started turning the pages, i couldn't stop! This is a story set in the beginning of the depression era and is about a young man named Jacob who is about to graduate from an ivy league school with a veterinarian degree. His plan is to join his fathers practice right after graduation but a tragic accident leaves his parents dead and not a dime to his name. He ends up jumping on a train that is a 3rd rate circus train. He ends up becoming the shows veterinarian and develops some of the most amazing relationships with the animals as well as making a few other friends and enemies a long the way. You know me, being an animal lover...i'm a sucker for the emotions that the author attached with the circus animals. But the whole era in time is fascinating to me as well as the seemingly grimy glamourous life of being part of a traveling circus show. I loved this book and can't wait to see the movie!!!
