Adoption Firsts...
As we end our first full day together I just want to say this, one dog is work, two dogs is even more work, but, two dogs where one has had no rules and had come from a background that we expect the worst neglect is hard exhausting work. Has the thought crossed my mind that I'm crazy and am in maybe a little over my head--yes. But it will be a challenge i openly accept. Charley is already responding to simple commands and he is pretty good at coming but he needs to learn how to sit. He is housebroken to a point but he is still occasionally lifting his leg at anything that is upright....we just need to be there to stop him and take him immediately outside. We need to keep a close eye on him and one of us needs to be in the room with him at all times, so different from our little Miss Independent. Speaking of...He and Baylie had gotten into a few scuffles now i think mostly because Baylie is jealous but we've worked through them with no blood or tears. Charley got his first visitors today---Mimi and Grandpa stopped by this morning so Mimi could meet him, and they hit it off :) Charley got his first walk this afternoon and I couldn't believe he walks like such a gentleman on a leash. We took the two down to a gated playground down the street from us and let them run around and play with each other and they did very well! It was so precious to see the two of them running and chasing each other around. Then we came home and Charley spent a few hours alone in his crate while Steve and I took Baylie for a ride "bye bye" so we could have special alone time with her so she does not feel forgotten about. We stopped at Chowhound and picked up new ID tags for the two of them and each got a special new toy. Charley was excited to get a new toy of his own, that Baylie promptly tried stealing straight out of his mouth. Boy oh Boy do we have our work cut out for us! Both dogs i think are a little pooped this evening to tolerate being this close--especially since this used to be Baylie's "spot." I think she's only laying there so she can reclaim the spot as soon and Charley gets up!
